What is an Action RPG Game?

Action RPGs combine real-time combat with RPG elements like leveling up, skill progression, and character customization. In this template, players will immerse themselves in intense battles, fight through waves of enemies, and gradually improve their skills and stats to tackle the final, epic boss.

With the Action RPG Template, you can experience the thrill of battling, leveling up, and unlocking new skills as you defeat enemies and prepare to face the final challenge.

How Do I Start?

Here’s how Experiences made using the Action RPG template work:

1. Define Your Class: Start by defining your classes, each with its own set of unique abilities.

a. Abilities are tied to hotkeys (1, 2, 3…) 

b. This template has three classes (Warrior, Mage, and Support), each with a set of three abilities. There are ways to create additional classes, but we will not be covering them in this article, as it is aimed at getting started with the template.

c.You’ll begin by auto-equipping equipment that will provide you with a specific role (warrior, mage, or support).

2. Define the player’s progression

Choose the amount of experience players get when killing an enemy to define a progression for players’ unlocking skills. 

In this template, players will unlock all their skills after around 20 enemies.

3. Define Waves of Enemies: 

• Define enemies NPC to use in your waves (customize their appearance, attacks & HP).
• Define the number of waves.
• Define items that will drop during battle.

4. This template includes Health Potions that regenerate players’ life, and totems that explode when walked over.

5. Level Up and Improve: As you progress through the waves, players gain experience points and level up, unlocking new skills. 

The game loop is simple yet engaging: players choose a class, fight waves of enemies, level up to unlock skills and become stronger, and fight bosses that test their skill!

How Do I Scale?

The Action RPG Template is designed for replayability and growth. As players level up, they’ll unlock powerful abilities, new classes, and more difficult challenges. You’ll need to:

• Create Your Own Classes: Develop your own set of skills to offer new experiences to players.
• Add Boss Fights: In between waves, integrate boss fights with unique patterns to improve the players’ experience.
• Create an Action Adventure RPG: Add a story and a wide environment to create an Action Adventure RPG for your players.
