Season 7: Old Versus New Technology

Season 7's old-versus-new technology theme comes to life through two community Game Jams launched in 2025: the Retro Game Jam and the Future Tech Game Jam. Together, these jams produced over 100 creator-built Experiences: 20 will be now featured in the season.

From the Retro Game Jam, creators built gameplay styles rarely seen in The Sandbox before, including Metroidvanias, side scrollers, and old school shooters. The Future Tech Game Jam produced a different range, with cosmic shooters, runners, and other forward-looking formats.

More than 50% of Season 7's Experiences come directly from the creator community. The Game Jams serve as the foundation for the season's content, reflecting a broader shift in how The Sandbox operates: less top-down, more creator-driven.

The Retro Game Jam: Where Nostalgia Meets Innovation

The Retro Game Jam invited creators to rediscover the charm of simplicity and a bygone era. Think back to when creativity mattered more than technology, and challenge was part of the fun. Creators drew inspiration from the golden era of arcades, reimagined classic mechanics with modern twists, and crafted nostalgic journeys through stylized environments that pay tribute to retro art, music, and UI design. The Future Tech Game Jam: Imagining Tomorrow

The Future Tech Game Jam challenged creators to imagine futures where technology is more than just a tool.
