The Sandbox evolves with broader, faster access through Browsers-Based Games in Season 7

The Sandbox today announced Season 7, expanding how players access experiences through browser-based gameplay. For the first time, players can jump into select The Sandbox experiences directly from a web browser with no download, no installation, and no account required to start playing. Season 7 continues The Sandbox’s ongoing efforts to broaden accessibility and lower the barrier to entry across its ecosystem.
Alongside expanded access, Season 7 introduces a seasonal theme centered on old versus new technology, blending retro inspirations with modern tools and ideas that reflect both the history and future of gaming and creation within The Sandbox. The Sandbox remains free to play and available on PC and Mac, with select experiences now also accessible directly from a browser, including on mobile.
“Season 7 reflects how The Sandbox continues to evolve alongside technology itself,” said Robby Yung, CEO of The Sandbox and Animoca Brands. “By expanding access through browser-based play, we’re making it easier for people to experience The Sandbox wherever they are—while continuing to explore how new technologies can enhance creativity, play, and ownership across the platform.”
This shift supports The Sandbox’s broader vision for an open, blockchain-enabled ecosystem. The expanded access makes it easier for users to discover experiences, participate, and create, while the platform’s underlying systems for digital ownership, NFTs, and the $SAND token remain intact.
Old Meets New: A Season Built by Creators in the The Sandbox Community
Season 7’s old-versus-new technology theme comes to life through two community Game Jams launched in 2025: the Retro Game Jam and the Future Game Jam. Together, these jams produced 20 creator-built experiences now featured in the season.
From the Retro Game Jam, creators built gameplay styles rarely seen in The Sandbox before, including Metroidvanias, side scrollers, and old school shooters. The Future Game Jam produced a different range, with cosmic shooters, runners, and other forward-looking formats.
More than 50% of Season 7’s experiences come directly from the creator community. The Game Jams serve as the foundation for the season’s content, reflecting a broader shift in how The Sandbox operates: less top-down, more creator-driven.
Iconic Brands and IPs Join Season 7
Season 7 brings together a mix of established brands, entertainment IPs, and community-built experiences, all tied to the season’s old-versus-new technology theme.
Confirmed partners include Atari, Bruce Lee, Terminator, Black Mirror, Steve Aoki, Cheech & Chong, and King Kong of Skull Island, alongside additional experiences created by The Sandbox’s global creator community.
These partnerships span nostalgia, pop culture, and modern interactive design across a season-long experience.
Season 7 Rewards and Progression
Season 7 introduces a 25-level Battle Pass with both free and Premium tracks. Players earn Experience Points (EP) by completing quests and playing experiences, including through browser-based gameplay, and progress through a structured rewards system throughout the season.
The free track offers rewards available to all participants. Players who upgrade to the Premium Pass unlock additional exclusive rewards and receive a SAND Pool Key, granting access to a 250,000 $SAND reward pool distributed at the end of the season based on final EP ranking. In total, more than 650,000 $SAND is allocated across Season 7 rewards.
Season 7 also includes additional incentives for ecosystem participants. Eligible LAND owners can earn $SAND rewards through participation, while select Avatar collections provide EP boosts that accelerate progression and increase a player’s potential share of the reward pool.
Looking Ahead
Season 7 continues The Sandbox’s broader push to expand accessibility, introduce new creative themes, and build toward future updates across gameplay and creation.
