Last year marked an important shift toward a creator-first future in The Sandbox. As part of this effort, we launched the Community Avatar Design Contest. The contest invited Creators of all backgrounds to design an Avatar in any medium they preferred, including VoxEdit models, virtual illustrations, hand-drawn concepts, or fully crafted physical creations.

More than 100 participants submitted concepts and from this pool, we selected 10 winning designs for their originality, clarity, and realistic in-game feasibility.

A New Kind of Collection

The Community Avatar Collection is the first collection created by our community that can be minted in The Sandbox. It features:

• 10 unique Avatars, each designed by a winning Creator
• Total supply: 250 per Avatar for a total of 2,500
• Price: 29 SAND

Each Avatar was crafted with care to stay true to the Creator’s original vision while meeting The Sandbox’s avatar standards. The result is a collection that showcases a wide range of universe and character concepts, all brought together in voxel form.

This collection stands as a snapshot of global creativity and a testament to what’s possible when community and craft meet.

Once the winners were selected, our art team collaborated with each Creator to bring their design to life. Creators shared notes, references, and specific details they wanted to preserve. The Sandbox team ensured each design translated effectively into a playable Avatar, while staying faithful to the original character.

Another Step Toward a Creator-Led Future

The Community Avatar Collection is now live. It’s an important milestone in our long-term vision to build a metaverse shaped with, and by, its community.
